01International Tuba Day was founded by Joel Day in 1979. At the time, Joel was a tuba player in a band at Lower Merion High School in Philadelphia, Pa. He started it as a result of a lack of respect for tuba and tuba players by his fellow musicians.
03In 1993, the UN General Assembly proclaimed May 3rd each year to be World Press Freedom Day
04According to the U.S. Library of Congress, Bird Day was first observed on May 4, 1894. It was started by Charles Almanzo Babcock, superintendent of schools in Oil City, Pennsylvania. By 1910, Bird Day was widely celebrated, often in conjunction with Arbor Day. Bird Day and Arbor Day events are focused upon conservation training and awareness (note star wars is dead so not mentioned)

06The roots of International Nurses Day goes back to 1953, when Dorothy Sutherland of the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare sent a proposal to President Eisenhower to proclaim a "Nurse Day" in October of the following year. The proclamation was not officially made. But, this day was born and eventually gained national recognition.
07The Continental Congress declared the first National Day of Prayer in 1775, when it asked colonists to pray for our new country. In 1952, President Harry S. Truman signed a bill into law proclaiming an annual National Day of Prayer. In 1988, the U.S. Congress passed Public Law 100-307, instructing the president each year to proclaim the first Thursday in May to be a National Day of Prayer. This holiday event is a true "National" day, and is the very first one officially proclaimed by government decree. It is not a public holiday.
08VEday: The German Army ceased fighting on May 2, and formally surrendered unconditionally, on May 7th. The surrender of all German forces was arranged for May 8 at 11:01. The Allied countries planned to celebrate victory, and the cessation of hostilities.

There was also presidential proclamation 3337 on May 4, 1963. They were originally called peace officers
20Each branch of the military had their own day of celebration but on August 31, 1949 then Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of Armed Forces Day. President Harry Truman also announced the holiday in a presidential proclamation on February 20, 1950. All branches of the military were asked to celebrate on this day and they complied on the first Armed Forces Day which was held the following year on May 20, 1950.
22World Goth Day originated in the United Kingdom in 2009. It quickly spread, and is now celebrated in many countries around the world.
